Background info: Jewel Staite is the youngest member of a large family of seven children. Attending the Vancouver Film School as a youngster, she commenced her modelling and acting career at the Vancouver Youth Theatre.
How she became famous: Jewel Staite became famous for her character as Dr Jennifer Keller in the American scientific fiction programme Stargate Atlantis and the role of Kaylee Frye in the other popular television series Firefly and its subsequent film Serenity.
Biggest achievement: When Jewel Staite was only 14 years old, she was nominated to the prestigious Gemini Award in 1998 for her best acting as Becca in the American television series Flash Forward which was produced in Canada.
