It’s the morning after the night before and your world feels like a real shit place to be. You’re feeling bloody sick, dehydrated, tierd, you think you look like the devil and you ain’t got no money left having spent it all on booze. Will you ever recover? Well, try some of our hot tips and hopefully they will ease the pain!

Dehydration

If you couldn’t be bothered drinking water before you went to bed last night, make sure you down a pint or two now. Experts suggest that you need about 200ml of water to effectively counteract every 2ml of alcohol you drink. If your body is dehydrated, it will naturally take water from anywhere it can, including the brain cells. As your brain can’t feel no pain, the pain-sensitive filaments become stretched due to water loss which then results in a headache. So your headache will get worse as you become more dehydrated.

No coffee

Coffee might seem to help dull the pain but it will only be temporary. Coffee will also further dehydrate you which will likely result in a killer headache. So avoid it at all costs.

Hair of the dog

Yes, it might make you feel better but all you’re actually doing is prolonging the inevitable. Your liver processes the many different toxins in a certain order and alcohol is first on its list. Your liver then starts on the methanol, releasing formic acid into your system making you feel ill. By having a drink the morning after, your liver will temporarily stop processing the methanol to revert back to the nasty alcohol, making you feel a bit better in the short term. But at some point that methanol will have to be processed so when that massive hangover finally hits, it will not be fun!

Painkillers

Should you decide to go down this route, never ever mix it with hair of the dog. Also, try and avoid any pain relief made from Tylenol as this can be very dangerous to your liver. A couple of ibuprofen could make you feel better if you wash them down with more water.

Fruit (juices)

The fructose found in fruit is very good for burning up any alcohol left in your stomach, though the acidity ain’t going to be easy to cope with.

Mixing your drinks

By mixing your drinks, you’re effectively increasing the numbers of additives and toxins going into your system. With increased toxic levels, your system, particularly your liver, will struggle to cope with the poisons. By drinking water, you’re enabling your liver to flush out the toxins more effectively, otherwise your hangover is gonna be a lot worse the morning after.

Food

Even though food doesn’t really absorb alcohol, it helps increase your metabolism which in turn raises the speed your body processes alcohol. Eating before or after drinking is a bloody good thing. If possible, you should also have a hearty breakfast - you need amino acids and proteins, so get a fry up on the go!

Vitamin supplements

Binge-drinking drains you of Vitamins A, B and C. Popping a couple of multivitamins will certainly help get you back on the straight and narrow.

A Hot Bath

The heat is known to sweat out the toxins which are causing all the problems. You might at first feel a bit woozy but just go with it and you will feel much better afterwards.

If all else fails …..

Go back to bed!
